Inshore fishing in Stuart is all about finesse and knowing the local habits of our target species. We'll be using light tackle, which means you'll feel every nibble and fight. For snook, we might be tossing live bait or lures near dock lights or mangrove edges. Redfish often require a stealthy approach on the flats, with soft plastics or cut bait. And for those elusive tripletail, we'll be scanning the surface near buoys and floating debris – these guys love to hang out near structure. Captain Bob's got all the tricks up his sleeve, from the right knots to tie to the best way to present your bait. You'll be fishing like a local in no time.
"Best fishing day!! Captin and both Mates - AJ and Rich totally made the trip a day we will never forget! Highly recommend, as we will definitely be back!" - Michael
Snook are the rockstars of Stuart's inshore waters. These silver-sided bruisers are known for their explosive strikes and acrobatic jumps. They love to hang around structure, so we'll be targeting them near docks, bridges, and mangrove shorelines. Spring and fall are prime times for snook, but with Captain Bob's know-how, we can find them year-round. There's nothing quite like the thrill of a big snook peeling line off your reel!
Redfish, or red drum, are another top target that'll get your heart racing. These copper-colored beauties are known for their distinctive spot near the tail. We often find them tailing in shallow water, their backs breaking the surface as they root for crabs and shrimp. Sight-fishing for reds is a blast – it's like hunting and fishing rolled into one. They put up a great fight, especially on light tackle, and they're delicious if you decide to keep one for dinner.
Tripletail might be the oddest-looking fish you'll catch, but don't let their appearance fool you – they're a prized catch and a ton of fun to target. These flat-bodied fish have a habit of floating near the surface, often mimicking floating debris. We'll be scanning the water for them, and when we spot one, it's all about the perfect cast. Tripletail are known for their hard hits and strong runs, plus they're considered excellent table fare. They're most common in the warmer months, but Stuart's waters can hold them year-round.
Look, weekends are precious, and there's no better way to spend one than out on the water with Catch 22 Fishing Charters. Whether you're looking to bend a rod with some friends, teach the kids how to fish, or just escape the grind for a few hours, Captain Bob's got you covered. Redfish, or red drum, are one of our most popular inshore species. They typically range from 5-30 pounds around here. You'll find them tailing in shallow flats or hanging around oyster bars and mangroves. Fall and winter are prime seasons when big schools push into the shallows. Anglers love sight-fishing for reds - spotting those copper-colored backs or waving tails in skinny water gets the heart racing. They put up a stubborn, powerful fight and are excellent table fare too. One local trick is to look for diving birds; often they're feeding on bait that reds have pushed to the surface. When you find a school, a gold spoon or scented soft plastic usually does the trick. Just remember to make long casts to avoid spooking them in clear water.

Snook are a prized catch here in Stuart. These sleek predators typically run 1-3 feet long and put up an amazing fight. You'll find them lurking around mangroves, docks, and other structure in the shallows. Spring through fall is prime time, especially around the new and full moons when they're spawning. Anglers love targeting snook for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic jumps. They're also excellent eating, though we practice mostly catch-and-release to protect the population. One local trick - work your lure or bait right up against structure, that's where the big ones hide. And be ready when you hook up, snook will make a hard run for cover to try and break you off. Patient anglers who can finesse them away from obstacles tend to land more fish.

Tripletail are an oddball fish that's become a favorite target. They usually run 2-15 pounds and have a unique rounded shape. You'll spot them floating on their sides near buoys, weedlines, or other floating debris, mimicking leaves. Summer's the best time to find them as they move inshore. Sight-fishing for tripletail is a blast - it's like a hunting game on the water. They put up a good scrap for their size and taste great too. Anglers love the challenge of sneaking up on them without spooking these wary fish. Here's a pro tip: cast past them and slowly retrieve your bait or lure into their field of vision. A well-placed offering right in front of their nose is hard for them to resist. Just be ready for a quick hookset when they pounce.
