Redfish Mania

Report Date: December 1, 2015

Starting in the first week of November till the winds started cranking a week ago, we have experienced something that I have not seen here in the Stuart area for 40 years. Redfish have invaded both the Indian and St. Lucie Rivers in both shallow and deeper waters.

It was not uncommon to catch reds shallow on the west side of the Indian River fishing under docks or on the east side hiding under mangroves. In the first 3 weeks this November aboard Catch 22 we have caught over a dozen ranging from 23 to 33 inches while fishing jigs tipped with shrimp, gulp and DOA baits.

Now that the winds have settled down, I'm curious to see if they remain in our area. Also look for an increase in pompano, blues, sheepshead and mackerel as the water temperatures decline.
